DIGITAL SOUP
A visual diary I made in April 2020 observing the rise of virtual concert or “e-gigs” as a result of Covid-19. The illustrations are inspired by an e-gig that was hosted by friends from my hometown DIY music scene in Westchester, NY during the lockdown. Each illustration is a portrait of a musician who performed that night from their home, sometimes using light, the angle of the webcam or even digital editing to emulate the atmosphere of an intimate or experimental DIY venue. Opposite each illustration are either my handwritten thoughts or lyrics by the accompanying performer.
The illustrations were painted using gouache and colored pencil on individual sheets of paper. The book is stab-bound and one-of-a-kind.
